Problems encountered in baglama education of visually impairedindividuals and solution suggestions: Şanliurfa case

Prof. Dr. Ozan BALDAN Year: 2025, Page : 79 This study aims to determine the problems experienced in the process of bağlama education for visually impaired individuals in music education institutions in Şanlıurfa. The difficulties encountered by visually impaired students while taking bağlama education, the materials used, teaching methods, teachers' knowledge and skills in this field, physical conditions of educational environments, institutional infrastructure deficiencies and general problems in the education process have been the focus of this research. The research was conducted using qualitative research methodology through interviews and observations with music teachers working in music education institutions in Şanlıurfa. In the interviews, the main problems faced by the teachers when working with visually impaired students were the inability to use visual methods, lack of special education materials, inadequacies in teacher training and insufficient institutional support. In addition, the fact that the majority of educational materials are not suitable for visually impaired individuals and the difficulties teachers face in developing alternative teaching techniques were also among these difficulties. According to the findings, it was determined that the methods used in the process of bağlama education are generally for students who are not visually impaired, this situation becomes more complex for visually impaired students, and teachers spend more effort, time and patience in bağlama education. Although it is emphasized that the use of Braille notation can facilitate education, it is observed that the number of teachers who learn and apply this method is low.
