Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of additional group Pilates exercises on the performance skills of 8-15-year-old ballerinas receiving classical ballet training. The study involved 37 girls (20 in the intervention group and 17 in the control group), all aged 8-15 and with at least 3 years of ballet training. The intervention group underwent an 8-week Pilates exercise program, conducted twice a week for 40 minutes each session. The control group only continued their ballet movements without any additional exercises. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to all participants before and after the 8-week period. Evaluations included demographic and physical characteristics, the Foot Posture Index-6, Beighton Hypermobility Diagnostic Criteria, Y Balance Test, Sit-and-Reach Test, Vertical Jump Test, McGill Tests, 6-Minute Walk Test, and Performance Proficiency Test. When comparing the initial and final tests in the intervention group, statistically significant differences were found in joint mobility, balance, flexibility, endurance, and performance skills tests (p<0.05). In the control group, significant differences were noted in flexibility, endurance, and performance skills tests between the pre- and post-tests (p<0.05). When comparing the differences in test changes between the intervention and control groups, endurance (trunk flexion and extension) and performance skills (coordination, accuracy of movements, movement control, ability, spatial awareness, timing and rhythm, expression and response to movements, expression, and interpretation) showed significant differences in favor of the intervention group (p<0.05). The findings indicate that Pilates has positive effects on the joint mobility, balance, flexibility, endurance, and performance skills of ballerinas.
