Abstract (EN)

AKSOY MK. Effect of Dentinal Defect Formation During Preparation of Glide Paths Before Root Canal Shaping by Current Single File Systems . İstanbul University, Institute of Health Science, Department of Endodontics. İstanbul. 2018. The purpose of mechanical preparation of root canals is; removal of microorganisms and debris in the root canal system and formation of root canal for root canal filling material. During mechanical preparation, complications such as perforations, transportion, instrument fractures, ledge formation may be encountered. In addition to such complications, fractures in the root canal dentin and microfracture may also occur as a result of mechanical preparation. After mechanical preparation, craze lines and micro cracks in the root canal dentin may play a role in the formation of vertical root fracture. Along with the advantages it has been reported, the use of NiTi instruments in recent years has caused fracture and crack formation in root canal dentin. The studies on single file systems following performing glide-path are not enough. In this study, 6 experimental groups and 2 control groups were formed as 20 single roots, single canal mandibular teeth in each group. In three of the experimental groups where 3 different file systems were used, glide-path preparation was made up to 25 with K-file NiTi hand files, and no glide-path preparation was made in the other 3 experimental groups. The aim of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of the glide-path prior to the use of single file systems to prevent microfractures on the dentin surface. As a result of this study, it has been observed that glide-path preparation, working principles of file systems, alloys and cross-sections have no significant effect on the formation of microcracks. Key Words: dentinal defects, single file systems, glide-path, microcracks
