The life of Hacı Muharrem Hilmi Efendi and the analysis of Divan-ı Sirrî

Hacı Muharrem Hilmi Efendi is one of the great saints who grew up in Elazığ in the recent period, he is a scholar, mystic and also a poet. He was born in 1878 in Sarılı village of Elazığ. When he was fifteen years old, he met Kadiri and Nakşi sheikh Hacı Ömer Hüdayi Baba and affiliated with him. Later, he settled in Harput and went to Abdullah Efendi Madrasa. He affiliated with Muhammed Kübrevi, whom he met there during his military service, and received the caliphate from him. He received his scientific license from Edip Efendi Madrasa in Erzurum. He received permission and inspiration from every saint he met in every city he went to. He had ijazah from the Kadiri, Nakşi, Rıfai, Şazeli and Ekberi orders. He was very popular in the cities he lived in and was loved by the people. He was one of the most influential figures of his time. He died in Elazığ in 1964. Muharrem Hilmi Efendi used the pseudonym "Sırri" in his poems and took the surname "Kösetürkmen" after the surname law. He has nine known works, but since his library was sold after his death, there is no definitive information about his other works. In this study, information is given about the life and works of Muharrem Hilmi Efendi and the Sufi concepts in his work Divan-ı Sırrî. Divan-ı Sırrî is a work consisting of poems on a religious-sufistic theme, written in classical masnavi style. In our research, the Sufi concepts in Muharrem Hilmi Efendi's Divan were examined by content analysis method. In the study, as a result of the document analysis, concepts such as self, soul, love, dhikr, repentance, consent, masiva, sect, sheikh-murshid and trust in Hacı Muharrem Hilmi Efendi's work were determined and tried to be evaluated from Muharrem Hilmi Efendi's perspective. The aim of this study is to introduce Muharrem Hilmi Efendi and to try to explain his perspective on Sufism and the meanings he attributes to Sufi terms through Divan-ı Sırrî.
