Abstract (EN)

Traditional handicrafts put forward by societies throughout history are valuable documents that make up their own culture. Book arts are of great importance within traditional handicrafts. The arts of Binding, Filigree, Miniature, Illumination, Calligraphy, and Marbling, are called book arts, which are emphasized, and works with rich artistic values have emerged in these topics. The application of Filigree which is one of the distinguished parts of traditional handicrafts, on the art binding is discussed. In our research, the 'Filigree' bindings in the collections of Hacı Selim Ağa, Nurbanu Sultan, Yakup Ağa, Kemankeş Abdülkadir Emir Hoca and Aziz Mahmut Hüdayi in the Hacı Selim Ağa Manuscripts Library were exained. A total of fifteen 'filigree' bindings, thirteen of which are in the manuscripts of the Hacı Selim Ağa collection and two of the manuscripts from the Nurbanu Sultan collection, were identified and technical and pattern analysis was carried out. Hacı Selim Ağa composing the motif applications used in the bindings in the library, examination of the desings, traditional container sample bindings and pattern desing analysis. These manuscripts, which are very valuable at the same time, should be unearthed in volume and Filigree, to create works that are suitable fort he technique by examining them in terms of traditional arts, is to produce new Works without disturbing the application technique of the arts. With the completed thesis,the Filigree bindings in the collection were brought to light and an effort was made to contribute to Turkish bookbinding researchers.
