Morphological changes made by the alcohol used in pregnancy period on the testicles of baby rats

In this study, We aimed at investigating the effect of ethanol given during pregnancy on weights and body testes of young rats in the neonatal period as well as histopathologic changer occuring in their testes tissue. In the study, 6 pregnant rats as control and 6 pregnant rats as ethanol group were used. During pregnancy, The rats were injected intraperitonally with 0.5 cc ethanol of 96 % and 0.5 cc serum physiologic mixture. In this period, they were fed with pelet feed and drinking water. The male young rats were killed with ether inhalation at the first they, after then testes of rats were taken and examined. In addition, body and testes weights of young rats in control and experiment group were discussed analyzed by student t test (P<0.001). Pearson Correlation coefficent, which shows the relationship between testes weights of rats in control and experiment groups,was found and evaluated by variance analysis. Statistically, body and testes weights of rats in ethanol group were significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.001). Regression model which shows the relationship between body and testes weights of rats in control group was not significant (r=0.40, P>0.05) (F=2.28; P>0.005). Yet, İt was also determined that the regression model, which shows the relationship between body and testes weights of rats in experiment group was significant (P<0.001). As a microscopic researhments, We can enumerate the histologic changes in testes weights of rats in ethanol taken during pregnancy as follows; dejeneration in spermatogenetic cells among seminifer tubuls, decrease in the number of leydig cells, lipid accumulation, vacuolar appearance, change in sertoli cells and increase in connective tissue.
