Performance of the air traffic controlor workload affect and an application on the air traffic controlor

in ABSTRACT As a consequence of globalization, an increase in air transportation, is experienced all over the world. Thus, the importance of the work of air traffic controllers get even more important. The level of performance of controllers is one of the most influencial factors effecting the air transportation system. Therefore, in this study the performance of controllers was investigated. Workolad one of the crucial variable factors of work performance was analized in detail. In the first part of the study, it was concentrated on individual factors (age, gender, experience, personality, cognitive style, time sharing), information processing and other factors (organizational climate, time pressure, teamwork, otomation, workstation design, training and selection, workload) were studied. In the second part, it was focused on workload and variable influencing workload factors for instance, shift work, workstation design and otomation, structure of air traffic, monitoring tools, communication, perception and vigilance. In the third part, controller's performance and workload interaction is presented with an overview international literature related to this subject. Finally, to support the theoritical frame work of the study and ampirical study was conducted applying a questionaire, doing participant observations and interviews in total covering 152 controllers. The data was analizied concentrating on work performance and workload. As a conclusion, the most important results of this studyy the type of work of the controllers perform increase their perceived workload. Another important factor experienced stress in their work situation. The result proved that stress has a strong influence on their work.
