Generous businessman Sıtkı Davut Koçman

In the last period of the Ottoman Empire, mines were operated by foreign companies. Faculty of high of mining engineers was opened in Zonguldak in 1923 in order to train local mining engineers. Sıtkı Davut Koçman who was born in 1912 graduated in 1931 from Zonguldak high mining engineering faculty as one of the first engineers of Turkish public. Immediately after graduation, he started to work as a mining engineer in the British company called Stanley Peterson in Göcek. Towards the end of the 1930s, when the operation of underground resources was completely nationalized and the work of foreign companies stopped, he established companies of Köyceğiz Krom, Kıyra Krom and Toros Krom, with Selahattin Goktug who graduated from same faculty as him Zonguldak the faculty of high mining engineering and starred mining chrome from most of Mugla's towns and shipping them to many countries, especially to Germany,. As a business partner with Goktug, He continued his business life, which started with mining by making fleet of ships in Germany with his business partner Selahattin Göktuğ in order to transport the chrome they exported, in different fields such as ship owning, poultry, automotive and chemical industry. Sıtkı Davut Koçman run all the companies he established from his office in Karaköy Bankalar Caddesi Bozkurt Hanı in Istanbul. For long years He managed to worked in harmony with shareholders of his companies who were on the company board. The BMC Company, which he established in partnership with the British in the automotive sector, has achieved great success and has become one of the most important companies in the country in the automotive field. Banvit, which is still one of the biggest companies in the field of poultry, has made significant contributions to the country's economy for many years. Which has become one of Turkey's leading companies in the field of ship-owning company has pioneered Koçtuğ domestic products to be exported to the world market. He named of the districts of Muğla to the ships purchased on behalf of this company by doing this he showed that how important Mugla was for him in his business and his company. Koçman also raised his son Ali as one off the leading business man in turkey Benefiting from his fathers work experience of Sıtkı Davut Koçman, Ali Koçman had powerful sayings in the business life of the country at a his young age as the president of TÜSİAD between 1980 and 1985. Sıtkı Davut Koçman, who experienced the great sorrow of losing his best friend Selahattin Göktuğ and then his son Ali Koçman at a young age he was on the peak of his business life. He served as the chairman of the board of directors of most of the companies he founded until the end of his life. He generously donated a significant part of his wealth to education. And to do this, he chose Muğla, which seems to have always a special place in his life. Founding Rector of Muğla University he met with Prf. Dr. Ethem Ruhi Fığlalı and made a significant donation through the Sıtkı Koçman foundation in order to complete the deficiencies of the university at the establishment stage. It has built many service buildings in the central campus and districts of the university. By donating generators and power sources, he tried to continue education without interruption. It has also donated many of its apartments in Mudanya to the Sıtkı Koçman Foundation. In return for the large amount of donations he made, he did not request a tax reduction from the state. He took care that the buildings he donated to Muğla University were in the color of the pomegranate that his wife loved very much. With his wife Mefharet Hanım, dormitories and cafeterias were built to meet the accommodation and nutrition needs of Muğla University students from all over the dormitory. Mefharet Koçman Health Center provided free healthcare services to students without health insurance and their families. In order to meet the accommodation needs of the lecturers of Muğla University, lodgings were built again through the foundation.
