The effect of the massage to the sleeping quality of hemodialysis patients

Abstract (EN)

Patients receiving hemodialysis treatment can experience a combination of negative symptoms such as sleep disorders, fatigue, muscle cramps, pain, dyspnea, depression, nausea, vomiting and constipation. If these symptoms are not taken under control all aspects of the patient's daily life and can adversely affect quality of life. Complementary therapies was determined the positive effects of massage in managing these symptoms. Therefore, the research performed in hemodialysis patients treated in the Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Practice Hospital Hemodialysis Unit in order to determine the efficacy of classical massage in the management of insomnia symptoms , matching the limitations of the study, the 30 experimental and 30 control group was voluntary. Socio - demographic variables prepared by the researcher, a questionnaire including questions about the disease, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Scale were used to collect data. The end of the study PSQI total mean score of the experimental group before the massage 6.93 ± 2.76 decrease to 3.23 ± 2.17 after massage (p < 0.001), but there is no change in the control group and there was a significant statistical difference between after massage control group and experimental group (p <0.05) . According to the results the massage may be recommended in patients for reducing insomnia symptoms with pharmacologic agents as a complementary implementation method.
