Abstract (EN)
This research was conducted between November 2022 and April 2023 to determine the skill level of nurses to manage their emotions. In addition, it was aimed to determine the relationship between nurses' level of managing their emotions, their demographic characteristics and working conditions. The population of the descriptive study consisted of 240 nurses working in two private hospitals serving on the Anatolian Side, and the sample consisted of 138 nurses who volunteered to participate in the study. "Personal Information Form" and "Emotion Management Skill Scale" (Çeçen, 2006) were used to collect the data. SPSS 26 program was used for statistical analysis of the collected data. Descriptive statistical methods (mean, standard deviation, median, frequency, percentage, minimum, maximum) were used while evaluating the research data. The conformity of the quantitative data to the normal distribution was tested with the Shapiro-Wilk test and graphical examinations. Student-t test was used for comparisons of normally distributed quantitative variables between two groups. One-Way ANOVA test was used for comparisons between groups of more than two normally distributed quantitative variables. Statistical significance was accepted as p<0.05. The sub-dimensions of emotion management skills are "anger management", "controlling negative physical reactions", "showing emotions as they are", "coping" and "verbal expression". In the study, when comparing the skills of managing emotions in nurses according to gender, it was determined that women's ability to verbally express their emotions and recognize their emotions was better than men's, and that men's ability to control negative bodily reactions was better than women's. There was no significant difference in the relationship between age, marital status, working time, unit, education level and ability to manage emotions of nurses with other demographic information. In the evaluation of the sub-dimensions of the skill levels of managing emotions, it was determined that the nurses' ability to manage anger, to convey emotions verbally, to show emotions as they are, was at a good level, and their ability to cope and control negative emotions was at a moderate level. Key words: Nurse, Emotion, Emotion Management
