The effects of the occupational risks experienced by nursing and obstetrician students during implementations on their anxiety levels (The example of Amasya University School of Health)

Aim: This study was designed as a descriptive one to determine the effects of occupational risks on the anxiety levels of 3rd and 4th grade Nursing and Midwifery students of Amasya University School of Health that are experienced during implementations. Method: The population of the study consisted of the nursing and midwifery students (n=176) who attended the 3rd and 4th grade of the university where the study was applied in October-November 2017. Except the ones who rejected to participate in the research, 156 students were reached from the students who actively participated in the lectures during the research dates. The data of the research were gathered by directly applying the questionnaire consisting of questions including socio-demographic characteristics, risks and threats perception caused by the hospital working environment, health conditions and working conditions, and Health Employee Safety Scale (HESS) and Beck Anxiety Scale (BAI) questions. Findings: 16.7% (26 people) of the students were male and 83.3% (130 people) were female and the average age was 21.00 ± 1.95 (Min: 18, Max: 31). The average (HESS) of the nursing students was found to be higher than the midwifery students. Midwifery students in the 4th grade were found to have higher average BAI scores than the 3rd grade students. Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that students were provided with occupational security in the hospital they were practicing, but were experiencing moderate anxiety.
