Ethical issues in nursing management

In this study, ethics, ethical approaches and administrative ethics which have often come to the fore both in many field and in nursing in the world and our country are explained, and administrative ethics and its applications are analyzed in terms of the administrative aspects of nursing services and also the administrative ethical behaviours of nurse administrators in the hospitals are evaluated in accordance with administrative ethical principles. Nurse managers , have a responsibility to solve work-related ethical problems, undertake ethical decision-making, and support nurses in solving ethical problems. In this research, it is aimed to examine the ethical problems encounteced in the management of nursing services, to identify problems and to develop solutions for these problems. The population of the research consists of all public and private hospitals in the province of İzmit, and the sample of the study was composed of 7 hospitals and more than 100 beds due to the higher number of administrative nurses. The nurses in all managerial positions in the sample hospitals were included in the study. In the study,we found that the ethical problems which nurse managers experienced during the management of nursing services were high turnover rate, insufficient number of nursing staff, lack of advancement opportunities, low payment, long and extended working hours, lack of follow-up occupational health and not having security and not being informed of the legal rights. The best measures for dealing with these problems were the authority of head nurses for deciding the need of number of nurses, advancement of the promotion system, creating extra payment opportunities for nurses and informing nurses of their legal rights.
