Abstract (EN)
Pituitary insufficiency (hypopituitarism) is a serious health problem that occurs as a result of the insufficiency of the hormone production of the pituitary gland and various endocrine and metabolic parts. Disruption of pituitary hormones such as ischemic necrosis, neoplasm, infiltrative disease, or altered genetics can trigger the development of sarcopenia, which leads to deterioration in the body. Sarcopenia is a condition that negatively affects patients' physical recovery and quality of life by causing a decrease in muscle mass, strength and function. We aimed to evaluate the relationship of this effective pituitary treatment with sarcopenia and the changes in muscle tissue with clinical, laboratory and anthropometric measurements. In this way, it is aimed to better manage the risk of hypopituitarism and sarcopenia development and to develop treatment-oriented treatment. 30 patients who applied to the endocrinology outpatient clinic and whose active treatment was ongoing were included in the study. The healthy control group, consisting of 30 people, was composed of people who applied to the endocrinology outpatient clinic for routine check-up and were not diagnosed with any medical disease. SPSS 22.0 program was used in the statistical evaluation of the data obtained. Qualitative variables are given as n and %. Mean and standard deviation values are given as descriptive values for numerical data. Normal distribution of quantitative data was evaluated with the Kolmogrov-Smirnov (KS) test. Chi-square test was used to examine the relationship between categorical data. The relationship between non-normally distributed numerical data and categorical data was examined using Wilcoxon tests for binary dependent categorical data and Mann Whitney U tests for binary independent categorical data. The correlation of data that did not show normal distribution was evaluated with the Spearman Correlation test. p < 0.05 was considered significant. It was observed that the case group's BMI, %fat and fat mass were significantly higher (p=<0.001). It was found to be significantly lower in bone mass and muscle mass measurements (p=<0.001). It was determined that the %Fat value was positively correlated with age and BMI (p=0.001). However, it was not correlated with IGF-1 and GH. In conclusion; Patients diagnosed with hypopituitarism have sarcopenia, which can be considered significant in terms of age and disease duration. Since sarcopenia impairs the quality of life, it is recommended to follow up these anthropometric measurements in order to improve the quality of life of pituitary insufficiency patients.
