The factors that affect life satisfaction of the eldery people in nursing home

This research was planned as a descriptive in order to determine the factors that affect life satisfaction of the elderly people living in nursing homes. Collection of the research datum was conducted between 04.01.2014 - 05.15.2014 in Ataşehir Hospice Institution connected to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. 117 elderly individuals who had the inclusion criteria formed the research sample. Another sample wasn't determined because it was aimed to be reached all seniors staying in this institution and agreeing to participate in the study. "Introductory Information Form" and "Life Satisfaction Scale" were used in the research as data collection tools. Data of the study; descriptive statistics' mean, standard deviation, median, min-max. rate and frequency values were used in the computer environment. The distribution of the variables was checked with Kolmogorov Simirnov test. In the analysis of quantitative data, ANOVA (Tukey test), independent-samples t test were used. SPSS 21.0 program was used in the data analysis. Significance was evaluated at the level of p<0,05. Following the evaluation, there was no statistically significant difference between the average life satisfaction scale and age group, gender, marital status, number of children, education, social security, where she/he spent his/her life, with whom he/she lived before coming the institution, the reason for staying in a care facility, visitor status, participation status in social activities (p>0,05). There was statistically significant difference between the average life satisfaction scale and monthly income status, the degree of satisfaction with the service provided, having a disease diagnosed, physical disability condition, situation of valuing life (p<0,05).
