Relevance of visual elements of children's books in İdil District Public Library in terms of child pedagogy

The quality of children's publications affects the child's liking book and reading habit. These features generally vary from the content of the tale or story told, the text and cover pictures, to the paper used. Offering books suitable for the child's age has a supportive structure in terms of the child's spiritual, mental, cognitive, linguistic and social development. In this context, it is important to evaluate the publications that are suitable for the age of the child and which are appropriate in terms of visuality. The aim of the thesis is to determine the effects of pictures in children's books between the ages of 7-10. In the thesis, the illustrated children's publications of the İdil District Public Library were evaluated in terms of visuality. In the evaluation of the publications, the opinions were taken of 1 child writer, 1 child development specialist, 1 graphic designer, 1 teacher and 4 librarians. The form created with the evaluation criteria prepared in line with these opinions was applied. The descriptive method was applied in the thesis. The universe of the study is the illustrated children's books of the İdil District Public Library that hold.. 180 children's books selected by random sampling method among 1490 children's books were evaluated According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, the visual on the cover of the book is interesting, the cover image is compatible with the content and reflects the subject, the children grasp the subject while reading, they are more interested in the book with the help of the visuals, the visual and text harmony, the book is suitable for the child's development level. It has an important structure in terms of qualities such as the fact that it is created in a structured structure, the publications are visually appealing, and the child loves reading and acquiring reading habits. Together with the results obtained, it confirms the hypothesis that "Children's publications in the collection of Primary Education Children in İdil District Public Library have a suitable structure in terms of visual characteristics".
