Abstract (EN)

In our work, in which we treated the change of Konya in the 19th. century, we first explained the general structure of the city in the period of Abdülhamit II. In order to do so, we explained Konya's characteristics like agricuture, industry, commerce and population in the period of Abdülhamit II. It's seen that the reaching of the Anatolia-Baghdad railway line, which we see as a breaking point, brought changes to the structure of the city. In the city, which had a traditional structure before the building of the Eskişehir-Konya railway line, this traditional structure broke with the arrival of the railway and some new localities, which didn't exist before showed up. The existence of this kind of new localities and of the railway brought an opening to abroad and caused a population movement and the city center of Konya started to have a more modern structure. With the arrival of the Konya Railways to Konya, the cereals transport, which was minimal before, showed an increase and Konya began to meet the the cereal demand of the capital Istanbul. The Konya plain irrigation project, started and realized by the Anatolia Railways Company in order to increase the variousity of products and the arable lands, made Konya and its surroundings one of the pioneer places of development of the Ottoman Empire. We can say that the railway, as in many other cities, sped up the progress in Konya and brought big changes to the city. Keywords: Abdülhamit II., Anatolia-Baghdad Railway, Anatolia Railways Company, Konya Railways
