Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, parabens are widely used as preservative adjuncts. These compounds possess antimicrobial properties which lengthen the shelf-life of many products, mainly in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry. It has a limited efficacy against bacteria while having substantial antifungal effects. Antibacterial efficacy is more pronounced against gram positive bacteria when compared to gram negative bacteria. Parabens have been found to trigger some untoward effects beside these favorable properties. This study is designed to minimize the hazardous effects attributed to parabens. Some de novo alternative molecules have been synthesized via replacing certain groups in paraben compounds. To investigate antimicrobial characteristics of these compounds which can be used as preservatives and adjuncts in the pharmaceutical industry, we have analyzed their efficacy against Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883, Escherichia coli ATCC 36218, Basillus megatarium DSM-32, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and eukaryotic fungi, Candida albicans ATCC10231 and Yarrovi triplytica in the microbiology laboratories. Key words: Antimicrobial effect, Paraben, Synthetic compound.
