The attitudes of the students of communication faculties on the reliability of internet journalism: An example of aplication covering the cities of İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir

ABSTRACTTHE ATTITUDES OF THE STUDENTS OF COMMUNICATION FACULTIES ONTHE RELIABILITY OF INTERNET JOURNALISM: AN EXAMPLE OFAPLICATION COVERING THE CITIES OF ISTANBUL, ANKARA ANDIZMIRThe aim of this thesis is to measure the attitudes of the students of communicationfaculties on the reliability of internet journalism. Within the framework of theoreticaldiscussions, the development process of internet communication in the axis of democraticdynamics, the general framework of internet journalism the current issues of internetjournalism and the reliability of internet journalism in relation with the other professionalethical codes are examined.In order to measure the attitudes on the reliability of internet journalism, surveymethod is used on a sample of students coming from the comminication faculties of theuniversities which are placed in stanbul, Ankara and zmir. The content of the survey isformed in relation with the professional ethical codes.According to the data derived from the survey, it can be said that internet journalism isnot found much reliable among the students. The rate of unreliability indicates a degree ofincrease within a range extending from the infringement of professional ethical codes to thenegative effects of social, legal and economic factors. Besides, university as an institution isfound to be a factor taking role in the unreliability of internet journalism. In this context, it isproposed that internet journalism be organized on ethical principles and wider institutionalarrangements be realized with the assistance of universities.
