Assesment of English curriculum for primary schools' 4th and 5th grades according to teachers' opinions ( a case study in Gaziantep)

Abstract (EN)

This research has been made to evaluate objective, content, learning-teachingprocess, evaluating dimensions, deficiencies and matters confronted in application ofEnglish teaching curriculum for Primary Schools? 4th and 5th grades by gettingteachers? opinions and impressions about English Curriculum for primary education.For that reason 121 participants of the study who teach English have been chosenrandomly in some primary schools in Gaziantep Sahinbey and Sehitkamil towns in2009-2010 academic year.To examine the programme?s applicability, teachers were given a questionnairewhich contains seven questions about demographic distribution of teachers, 50questions about objective, content, teaching-learning process, evaluating dimensions ofthe curriculum, five questions about curriculum in general and a final open-endedquestion for determining deficiencies and matters confronted in application of Englishcurriculum for Primary Schools? 4th and 5th grades.At first the questionnaire results was explained in general by consideringfrequency and percentage. Then teachers?s gender, graduation fields, employmentsituation, classes they teach, participation in a in-service training or a seminar about thenew curriculum and these trainings? meeting the needs about the curriculum were takeninto consideration. By using Chi-square technic, to determine whether there is adifference related to programme dimensions between the groups was examined.VAt the end of this research the teachers who participated to questionnaire havepositive opinions and impressions about the programme and its applicability has beenunderstood. According to the data obtained at the end of the study, some significantdifferences have been determined about teachers?s gender, graduation fields,employment situation, classes they teach, participation in a in-service training or aseminar about the new curriculum and these trainings? meeting the needs about thecurriculum.
