Abstract (EN)

This research aims to understand the opinions of the primary school teachers? about primary curriculum in which constructivist approach was considered as a basis. In this research, survey model was used. Semi-structured interview technique is used in order to gather the data. 31 primary teachers who work various primary schools in Istanbul in the 2008?2009 academic year involved in this research. In order to analyze the data, Strauss and Corbin?s (1998) grounded theory methodology was administered. During the analysis, teachers? responses to the interview questions were scanned throughly, the points that suited to the aim of research were underlined and were encoded with a word or a phrase. As a result an encoded data that has similar qualities with other data has taken the same code with them and thus, the categories were discovered. The relations between the concepts and categories were also explained. As a result of analysis, three main category were formed. These are: ?teachers? views of constructivist approach?, ?changes that primary curriculum brought?, ?difficulties of implementing primary curriculum?. The data analysis revealed that although the teachers could not explain the term `constructivist approach? theoretically, they explained through their experiences. The research suggests that teachers need to have in service education in order them to gain a detailed information about constructivist approach that primary curriculum considers.
