Views of prospective primary school mathematics teachers on the utilization of Singapore mathematics

The aim of this research is to determine the views of primary school mathematics teacher candidates regarding the utilization of Singapore Mathematics. The study was conducted with 36 primary school mathematics teacher candidates studied in the Department of Primary School Mathematics Teaching at Firat University. The research is a case study and consists of two phases. In the first phase, teacher candidates were informed about Singapore Mathematics for 4 hours at each grade level. Following the informative training, a survey consisting of 13 open-ended questions prepared based on expert opinions was administered to the students. Descriptive analysis was employed in the data analysis process of the research. As a result of data analysis, 13 categories were obtained. These categories include teacher candidates' knowledge about international assessments, knowledge about mathematics curriculum, opinions about the use of Singapore Mathematics, and views on the utilization of teaching techniques from successful countries in international exams. According to the results of the research, all teacher candidates found the use of Singapore Mathematics to be appropriate. One of the significant findings at the end of the study is that teacher candidates expressed the beneficial aspect of incorporating teaching methods used by successful countries in international exams into university courses. The study concludes with recommendations suggesting that conducting experimental and exploratory studies related to Singapore Mathematics in our country would contribute to the literature.
