Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to define the visionary leadership qualifications which primary school principals should possess and to make suggestions upon the subject.The data consist of the ideas of 25 primary school vice principals and 215 teachers working in 29 primary schools in four districts of Istanbul City.The survey consists of two parts: In the first part, personal and professional data were collected. In the second part, 30 proposals prepared in 4 scale Likert format upon visionary leadership qualifications were listed.The scores were charted and commented through statistical calculations such as frequency analysis, t-test and variance analysis by using SPSS program.The common idea of participants who are expert in their fields is that, provision of sources to form the vision of school and finally the vision of the school is determined by principal.While forming the vision of the school, it is seen that single teachers and vice principals gave more support to the principal when compared to those married ones.On the subject of visionary leadership qualifications of school principals necessary for forming the vision of the school, the staff in private schools responded more positively when compared to those in state schools.Upon visionary leadership qualifications of principals, teachers and vice principals with 1 to 5 years of experience gave more positive answers than those with more years of experience, and also primary school teachers gave more positive answers than branch teachers.Generally young and single teachers and vice principals especially ladies among those, appreciate visionary leadership qualifications of principals in a higher level.
