SQ4R technique's effect on 4'th grade student's reading & comprehension skills

The purpose of this study is researching effect of sq4r technique's on 4'Th grade student's reading and comprehension skills. There was no experiential study about sq4r technique's implementation on reading and comprehension; by this case study is important. Research group composed by 57 students who are going to Atatürk Primary School in Uşak. Experimental group comprised by 27 students and control group comprised by 30 students within same features. Study designed as experimental pre-test and post-test control group. In experimental group, Turkish lessons were taught totally 10 weeks with SQ4R technique, in the other hand, in control group, lessons were held with student's lesson and work book and teacher's guide book. A permanency test that developed by researcher was applied after carrying SQ4R technique out for 4 weeks. In research, reading comprehension skills achievement tests those prepared by researcher were used for data collect instrument. These tests were applied to both groups before experimental procedure. In order to analyze data t- test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test were applied. According to research's results, a significant difference was found in experimental group's favor regarding reading comprehension achievement. The number of pages those read by students, family's income level, mother's education level and father's education level variances are affecting to reading comprehension skills. Variations like computer ownership status, buying daily newspapers and magazines aren't effective on reading comprehension skills.
