Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the children's novels recommended for the primary school period within the scope of the Book Van Project, in the context of the rights granted to children by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Document analysis, a qualitative research method, was used to collect data from the books. By using convenience sampling and criterion sampling methods, 20 local children's novels available in schools, recommended for 3rd and 4th grade students within the scope of the Book Van Project, were evaluated. The "Examination Form for Children's Novels Recommended for the Primary School Period Within the Scope of the Book Van Project" prepared by the researcher was used to evaluate the books. The form was finalized as a result of expert opinions. In this research, where document analysis was used, content analysis technique was employed to derive analysis results from the data. As a result of the analysis, 'children's rights' was determined as the main category and, based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, four subcategories were organized in terms of survival, protection, development, and participation rights. Positive expressions in the books were focused on, and expressions evoking rights articles were also considered and coded under the subcategories during the analysis. The data obtained as a result of the study were quantified to determine the extent to which the books included both children's rights and rights articles. Expressions related to children's rights were found in all 20 books examined, but some rights articles were not addressed by any of the books. The levels at which the books included children's rights were identified as survival (209), development (165), protection (153)and participation (122), respectively.
