Assessing the relationship between relationship satisfaction and intolerance of uncertainty, perfectionism, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms

This thesis aims to evaluate the relationship between relationship satisfaction and intolerance of uncertainty, perfectionism, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms, in order to better understand the relationships among these variables and determine the factors that influence individuals' satisfaction levels in their relationships. Additionally, one of the objectives of this study is to examine whether there is a significant difference based on sociodemographic characteristics such as relationship duration, having children, gender, etc., which are believed to be associated with these variables. In addition to making sense of relationships, this thesis study aims to contribute to psychological support and therapy processes by examining the complex relationships between relationship satisfaction and intolerance of uncertainty, perfectionism, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and to identify issues that need to be addressed in preventive efforts. The study was conducted with the voluntary participation of men and women aged 18-40 living in various parts of Turkey. The participants of the study consisted of 441 individuals from three different groups: those without a relationship, those with a boyfriend/girlfriend, and those who were married. The participants were reached through online platforms via Google Forms. The thesis study was carried out using quantitative research methods. As part of the research, after informed consent forms were provided for information purposes, data were collected through the Relationship Satisfaction Scale, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory, and a demographic information form. After cleaning the invalid data, the collected data were evaluated using appropriate statistical analysis techniques, and the findings were interpreted. In the conducted research, no significant relationship was found between relationship satisfaction and perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and intolerance of uncertainty, contrary to previous studies. However, it was concluded that age and relationship duration predict relationship satisfaction.
