The relations between faith styles and personality

Personality forms the basis of an individual's faith orientation. For this reason, faith should be considered on the human axis together with personality traits and socio-cultural elements. The main purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between faith styles and personality traits. The research is a correlational study in which the questionnaire technique is used. The data were obtained by applying a questionnaire to 240 people (Male=74, Female=166) in the 17-73 age range selected by convenient sampling method. The sample of the research includes participants from all over Turkey. In the survey; "Personal İnformation Form (gender, age and educational status)", "Faith/Worldview Styles Scale", "Ok-Religious Attitude Scale", "Big-Five Inventory" were used. As a result of the research, it was determined that as the mean of absolute faith increased, there was the increase in agreeableness and conscientiousness traits and the decreased in openness to experience trait. On the other hand, it was determined that with the experience of seeking, stress and conversion in faith, decrease in agreeableness and conscientiousness and increase in neuroticism. In addition, a significant positive relationship was determined between seeking, stress and open faith and openness to experience. It has been observed that with the increase in faith development, an increase in the neuroticism and openness to experience and a decrease in the agreeableness and conscientiousness. In addition, it was determined that as the religiosity increased, the extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness increased, but the neuroticism and openness to experience decreased. The results obtained from this research will be useful in determining the quality of religious education and spiritual counseling to be given to individuals.
