Innovating science and research: Case of clinical and translational science (CTS) in Turkey

Clinical and Translational Science (CTS) is an emerging concept in the world with the aim of closing the gap between basic science and applied science. While Translational Science term initially was used for defining the translation of basic science to useful application, today the term is used for the whole healthcare innovation. Developing new pharmaceutical products, vaccines, and medical devices take very long time and cost too much money. To shorten the time and decreasing costs, there is a need to make science and research innovation. CTS brings innovation to research environment for pharmaceutical development to improve human life expectancy and quality, decrease incredible R&D costs and time. It is understood that to solve complex healthcare problems and develop utilizable outputs, scientist who come from different fields, should work together. Besides CTS is a team science, cooperation between university, government and industry is the other main issue. CTSA Program in US and EATRIS in EU has been operated to supply infrastructure to CTS since 2006. In this thesis CTS Infrastructure model for Turkey is tried to envision. While forming the model with descriptive method, made benefit from samples of US and Europe, and Business Model Generation book written by Osterwalder and Pigneur. And also specific problems and needs of Turkey in research area were considered.
