The effects of the use of intravesical dexpanthenol on lipid peroxidation and bladder histology on interstitial cystitis animal model.

Abstract (EN)

To demonstrate the effects of the use of intravesical dexpanthenol on urinary bladder histology and lipid peroxidation in intersititial cystitis animal model.A total of 35 New Zealand rabbits were divided into 3 groups. Cystitis was carried out with transurethral intravesical HCl instillation in subjects of group I and II. In group I, we carried out intravesical dexpanthenol therapy 2 times a week. We use only isotonic NaCl in group II. In group III, we instilled transurethral intravesical distilled water to form similar stress but not chemical cystitis. Treatment schedules were similar in all groups. After the six weeks therapy, rabbits were sacrified and histopathologic investigations were made to demonstrate the changes in urinary bladder. We examined the MDA levels both serum and tissue samples to investigate the dexpanthenol?s effects on lipid peroxidation products.In this study, we observed that dexpanthenol saved basal membrane and mucosal integrity, suppressed the inflammatory cells and decreased the MDA levels in serum and tissue in group I. But we observed that mucosal integrity was damaged, a number of inflammatory cells and mast cells accumulated on basal membrane and the MDA levels were significantly increased in group II which instilled saline.According to our results, intravesical dexpanthenol treatment could be a new treatment approach for interstitial cystitis with low cost and acceptable side effects.Key words: Dexpanthenol, Interstitial cystitis, Lipid peroxidation, Malondialdehyde (MDA).
