Biofilm formation and hemolysins production in woundisolates of coagulase-negative staphylococcus Spp insalahuddin governorate, Iraq

Staphylococcus species are known to be among the most common bacteria responsible for food poisoning outbreaks. The samples used in this study were obtained from patients injured in the emergency department of Salah El-Din General Hospital. A total of 94 samples were taken between November 2020 and January 2021. In this study, it was aimed to isolate and identify Staphyloccoccus spp from various skin lesions, and to evaluate biofilm formation and beta-lactamase and hemolysin production. In addition, antibiotic resistance patterns of the isolates were also investigated. When the data obtained were analyzed, it was determined that there was a high prevalence of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococci among carriers and patients in the community. In addition, multidrug resistance has been found in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococci. At the same time, both MRSA and MR-CoNS isolates were high and strong biofilm formation was observed. In addition to these, it has been suggested to use molecular methods for the detection of mecA gene in local Staphylococcus spp isolates. Finally, the correlation of this gene with other genes that govern multidrug resistance to other antibiotics or the production of certain virulence factors such as enzymes and toxins, or the icaADBC operon of the mecA gene was investigated.
