How did calligraphy get involved in Islamic temples?

In this thesis, it has been examined how the culture of writing get involved in the Islamic temple, and how it relates to the place as a symbol. In the study, the questions were asked whether calligraphy is an indispensable element for the Islamic temple, what is wanted to be said with writing, who is the addressee of the text, and what role the architecture has in writing besides what it wants to say. The temples selected from the breaking points of Islamic history were examined in this context, and the relationship of writing programs with the concepts of architecture and power was tried to be revealed. In the first chapter, the concept of Islamic temple and the process of transforming masjids into mosques are emphasized. In the second part, the answer was sought for why writing programs entered the Islamic temple, and for this reason, it was examined in which way and where the text content was preferred. In the third chapter, legibility of the text and its ability to be manipulated by the authorities are discussed.
