Erbil is an ancient city located in northern Iraq and is considered the centre of the Kurdistan region. Erbil is recognised as one of the oldest settlements in the world with a history of over 6,000 years. Erbil has been home to many civilisations and empires throughout its history, including the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Romans, Arabs, Mongols, Ottomans and British. This city is an important centre for Islamic culture and sciences and has raised many prominent scholars, jurists and poets. These personalities benefited from the cultural, economic and political climate of Erbil, which grew and developed under the rule of Islamic civilisation. This study aims to explain the importance of the city of Erbil and its place in history.
