Abstract (EN)

m ABSTRACT THE USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES IN COMPANIES' BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERTNG EFFORTS AND AN APPLICATION IN MTTAS T.A.Ş. Ahmet Emre DEMİRCİ Business Administration Department Anadolu University, Institute of Social Sciences, September 2001 Advisor : Prof. Dr. İnan ÖZALP Rough winds are blowing in the business world. This wind of change is influencing all sort of companies no matter big or small. In today's competitive business conditions, companies face two options: To changeor to. collapse. To reengineer the strategic business processes is an option for the businesses engaged in overcoming rough winds of change. The companies which are running for gaining competitive advantage and market leadership should reconsider critical business processes. Business processes that are not adding value to business operations must be obliterated. The rest must be reengineered to create maximum value for customers and business operations. The effective use of information technologies will catalyse the business process reengineering efforts of the companies. Companies running BPR projects, are using information technologies to analyse their existing processes and to reengineer these processes to transform them into value-adding ones. The appropriate use of information technologies will enhance the speed and the effectiveness of BPR efforts. But it must never be forgotten that BPR efforts are not just about delivering IT solutions. Companies should consider IT as a powerful enabler of business process change.
