The relationship between organizational commitment and job satisfaction of teachers working in the primary schools of Kağithane district of İstanbul

Abstract (EN)

The primary objective of this research is to determine whether the age, gender, the level that they are teaching, professional seniority, the length of time at the present school and educational levels of primary school teachers have any effect upon their organizational commitment and job satisfaction levels. In addition, it is also aimed to find out if there were any relationships between the organizational commitment and job satisfaction levels of the teachers. In the survey, the ?Organizational Commitment Questionnaire? which was developed by Celep, and ?Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire? have been used as data collection means. The data of research have been collected from the questionnaires delivered to a total of 297 teachers who were teaching at the government primary schools in Kagithane region of city of İstanbul during the 2006-2007 academic year. The data collected via the questionnaires have been analysed statistically with ?arithmetic mean?, ?t-test?, ?one-way variance analysis?, ?LSD test?, and ?Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r)? on the computer using SPSS 13.0 pack. At the end of the research, the organizational commitment levels of teachers have been found at the ?most of the time? level on all of the sub-levels; ?school commitment?, ?commitment to educational affairs?, ?commitment to the teaching profession? and ?commitment to the working group?. The job satisfaction levels of teachers at the ?inner satisfaction? dimension have been found ?high?, and those at the ?outer satifaction? dimension have been found ?medium?. A .05 level difference has been found between the organizational commitment levels of teachers and the following variables: age, the level that they are teaching, professional seniority, the length of time at the present school and educational levels. There is no significant difference between organizational commitment and gender. In addition; there is a .05 level significant difference between the job satisfaction levels of teachers and their ages, professional seniority, the length of time at the present school and their educational levels. On the other hand, there is no significant difference between the job satisfaction levels and gender and the level that they are teaching of primary school teachers.
