Investigation of current treatment compliance and factors affecting tuberculosis in Zeytinburnu District of Istanbul

Research; Tuberculosis Dispensary in Zeytinburnu District of Istanbul, Turkey. Since there are not enough studies in our country for the compliance of tuberculosis patients to treatment, new studies are needed. This study was carried out with 85 patients between 20-65 years old who applied to Zeytinburnu Tuberculosis Dispensary between 01.10.2015 / 01.10.2016. The questionnaire and Tuberculosis Dispensary records were used as data collection tools. Statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS Statistics 18. Eta, pearson chi-square, fisher ,s exact test and Mann Whitney U test were used to compare the data. Of the 85 patients included in the study, 31 (36.5%) were female, 54 (63.5%) were male, and the mean age was 36,1647 (Min: 20-Max: 65). 24.7% of the students have education level of high school and above. 76.5% of the patients are new cases. 22,3% have diabetes. It is seen that male patients do not come to take medication higher than female patients (Male: 25% and Female: 3.2%). The percentage of men forgetting to take medication is higher than that of women (Male: 27% and Female: 9.7%). There was no statistically significant difference between education level, family type and social security, whether to quit drinking or not to come to take medication. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between smoking and drug intake (P = 0.005). Alcohol use was found to be statistically significant when compared to whether or not to take the drug (P = 0.009) and whether or not to forget to take the drug (P = 0.042) (P <0.05). It is seen that male patients do not come to take medication and forget to take medication is higher than female patients. The rate of non-smokers is higher among smokers. Alcohol users have a higher rate of not coming to take medication and forgetting to take medication.
