Istanbul Directorate of National Education "writers in Schools" project effectiveness official primary school students, teacher and author feedback evaluation

The aim of this study is to evaluate the Writers on Schools Project according to the the students enrolled in the public elementary schools, the Turkish teachers serving in all the public elementary schools in 39 districts of İstanbul and the writers involved in the project.The study aiming at investigating the effects of the "Writers in SchoolsProject" of İstanbul Directorate of National Education on students? reading habit has the objective of uncovering the failures of the Project within the framework of the views of the students, the Turkish teachers and the writers participating the ProjectThe sample of the study is 1101 students studying and 848 Turkish teachers working in 1386 public primary schools in 39 districts of İstanbul and 23 writers in 2011-12 educational year. In the study, the Student, Teacher and Writer Survey was applied. According to the findings of the study, the project was expressed to be succesful by the students, teachers and writers.According to the findings of the study, the students? meeting with the writers by the project raised awareness in creating in reading habit in the students, aroused desire to read and write in the students, contributed to the intellectual and emotional developments of the students.According to the findings of the study, the views of the schools and teachers that are the most effective factors in the gaining of the reading habit to the students can be applied in the project. In addition, the families can be more active in the project and the necessary sensitivity in the selection of the writers and their works should be shown. The project should be done in all the cities of Turkey and developed.Key Words: Reading Habit, The Writers In Schools Project.
