Transcription and content analysis of the Şarkı Mecmûası catalogued as T.Y. 05656 in the Istanbul University Library

In this study, the "Şarkı Mecmûası," registered under the number T.Y. 05656 in the Rare Books Library of Istanbul University and estimated to have been compiled in the early 19th century during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II, has been examined. There is no available information regarding the copyist or the date of transcription. The mecmûa consists of 90 folios and includes 190 lyrics (güfte), 10 manis, 7 ghazals, as well as various poems and compositions. The study is composed of three chapters. In the first chapter, general information about mecmûas is provided, followed by a discussion on the definition, significance, and types of lyric collections (güfte mecmûaları). The second chapter presents an analysis of the selected mecmûa, evaluating the musical modes (makams), lyric poets, the estimated period in which the mecmûa was written, its content, and formal features. A table containing information on the works is also presented, along with discussions on the structure of the text, its orthographic features, and certain challenges encountered during the study. In the third chapter, the entire text is transcribed into the modern Turkish alphabet while preserving its original stylistic features.
