Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the consumption phenomenon and her approach to consumption of Jean Baudrillard, one of the famous French thinkers, are examined. Baudrillard, who tried to understand capitalism throughout her academic life, aimed to analyze in detail how capitalist consumption relations were imposed and maintained through technology, advertising, mass media. The phenomenon of consumption is related to the emergence of humanity. Consumption, which has passed through many stages in the life cycle of thousands of years, has lost its importance in today's societies to buy and consume within the framework of use value. While examining how the consumer society emerged, Baudrillard's views on simulation, simulacrum, hyper-reality, sign, object, mass media, advertising, and technology were used Baudrillard's thought system has been examined and focused on the production and consumption relations that build today's consumption societies. As a result of the important advances that started in technology in the nineteenth century, a change began to occur in the consumption relations of societies and this led to the questioning of the consumption phenomenon in the consumer society. Therefore, Jean Baudrillard stated that the phenomenon of consumption has lost its reality with technology, advertising, mass media, and that reality has been reproduced with the indicators of simulacra and transformed into a consumption-based society. In this direction, in our study, it has been revealed that Jean Baudrillard's simulation theory and all values related to this theory have lost their meaning, and the effect of developing technology, advertising and capitalist consumption relations in its construction.
