A study on problems encountered by female academics in their academic life; Istanbul example

For centuries, education has become compulsory to ensure social, cultural and economic development and to educate people. The role of women in society has developed at different levels in every society. In the past and today, education has been a prerequisite for a quality life. The most important condition for women's development and reaching their personal self is to be included in working life by receiving education. Academic studies on women's education and working life are increasing day by day. It is also a sad fact that women have taken a place in working life from past to present, but they are fighting with the multiple roles that society imposes on women such as motherhood, housewife and business life. An environment for flexibility in working hours, equal pay with men, equal approach between genders, management and leadership should be created for working women who work both at home and in business and who undertake more than one role. Working women and female academics face many problems in their business life. The aim of this study; The aim of this study is to examine the problems faced by women in academic life with a survey conducted with female academicians of universities in Istanbul. In the study, the problems faced by female academicians in business life were answered by female academicians with the survey method. With the questionnaire applied in the study, female academicians; The effects of social role plurality, marital status, the effect of being a mother on academic career, gender gap inequality and competition among women were taken and their thoughts on business life were put.
