A study on women's entrepreneurship: The case of Diyarbakır

This study, which was prepared as a master's thesis, focuses on entrepreneurship in general and women's entrepreneurship in particular. Entrepreneurship; It is a phenomenon realized by individuals who are innovative, free, brave and think differently, not just thinking, but making this innovation a life practice. Today, when the world has turned into a global village as a result of technological developments, the social, political and economic structures of societies are going through changes and transformations. Therefore, as a result of globalization, developments in information technologies and the spread of these technologies in the economic system, the means of production, currencies, economic policies and the level of development of countries are also affected by this transformation. This wave of change also changes the social position of women and expands the place of women in business life for various reasons. In this context, Diyarbakır has been the subject of research because it is a city where the presence of women in the economic system has increased. This study, which was written as a thesis, is based on the field research carried out to examine women's entrepreneurship in Diyarbakır from a sociological perspective. In the study, in which the qualitative research method was preferred, literature review and in-depth interview technique were used. Within the scope of the research, face-to-face interviews were conducted with women operating in different sectors in Diyarbakır using a semi-structured interview form. The findings and the thoughts of women entrepreneurs were reflected in the study with descriptive analysis. Based on the research findings, it is possible to say that women entrepreneurs in Diyarbakır are mostly young, educated, active, persistent, political and successful. In addition, it has been determined that women's entrepreneurship is socially accepted, supported and appreciated in Diyarbakır. The combination of this social acceptance and the active female identity of the city has resulted in women entrepreneurs having a field of activity even in sectors known as "male-dominated".
