Abstract (EN)

Violence against women is not merely a personal behavior; it is a multifaceted phenomenon composed of the dynamics of society, culture, and mind. In the literature, violence against women is generally examined from a victim-centered approach, but the social and psychological processes of men who perpetrate violence are insufficiently investigated. This thesis, to fill this gap, examines the act of violence from the perspective of the perpetrator and discusses the impact of the social construction of masculinity on violent tendencies. The research chose a qualitative approach and is based on document analysis and extensive literature review. Due to ethical and social sensitivities, field interviews were not conducted. Theoretical framework; It is based on Heise's ecological model, Connell's theory of superior masculinity, and Johnson's theory of violence. Using these theoretical approaches, it examines how men develop violent behaviors in interaction with gender roles, power relations, and cultural norms. The findings indicate that studies targeting men who perpetrate violence in Turkey are scarce, and existing services are generally victim-focused. The study concluded that to prevent violence, policies should be developed not only to protect the victim but also to promote the psychosocial recovery of the perpetrator and raise public awareness. In this context, this thesis offers an original theoretical and societal contribution to the literature on violence against women with its perpetrator-focused approach According to an examination of data from 2015 to 2025, female deaths in Turkey have fluctuated and are generally increasing. Findings indicate that most incidents occur in the context of intimate partner violence and involve the use of firearms
