The sociological language of tattooing in women: Mardin example

This study on tattoo is used in the province of Mardin, in the Southeast Anatolian Region. In Mardin, which is the fusion point of different cultures, it is inevitable to be influenced by each other. One of these cultures is the practice of "deq" (tattoo). Although it is not known exactly when and by whom it was made for the first time, the tattoo application called "deq"; It is an art that is applied to various parts of the body and face and made for various reasons, especially the sense of belonging to the communities in which people live. Tattoo; plays an important role in the interpretation of sociological reality. From this point of view, the sociological explanation of the tattoo emerges as a necessity. Qualitative research method was used in the study in order to explain the tattoo sociologically. Since the research deals with the historical, cultural and religious dimensions of tattooing, it has the characteristics of an ethnographic research. Semi-structured interview technique was used in the research. Data analysis was tried to be explained on the basis of observations and interviews in accordance with the qualitative research method. As a result of the field study, there is a gender difference in the places where the tattoo is inscribed on the body. However, it has been concluded that it has nothing to do with the tribe, height, identity and belief that one lives in.
