Comparison of functional results of essex-lopresti technique and percutaneous screwing in calcaneus fractures

Objective: We investigated how different treatment methods applied to calcaneal fractures in our clinic affect spatiotemporal parameters. Material and Methods: In our study, the gait analysis of patients who were diagnosed with calcaneal fracture by an orthopedic specialist at Fırat University Hospital between November 2015 and November 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. The data of the patients were taken from the retrospective system; Spatiotemporal parameters and factors affecting functional status were investigated. Gait analysis was performed on the patients. Static posture and dynamic gait parameters were analyzed. Results: There are 12 patients (4 women - 8 men) in the group called Group 1, where conservative (with plaster) treatment method was applied; Group 2: 42 patients (8 women - 34 men) in the group treated closed with Steinman and 12 patients (7 women - 5 men) in the group 3 open reduction plate osteosynthesis were evaluated. While the average age was 42.91±15.48 in the conservative group and 48.50±11.05 in the Steinman closed-treated group; It was 39.00±16.54 in the group osteosynthesized with open reduction plate. The age difference between the groups was not statistically significant. While the mean height was 171.41±10.15 in the conservative group and 171.73±10.48 in the closed Steinman treated group; It was 166.08±7.59 in the group osteosynthesized with open reduction plate. The height difference between the groups was not statistically significant. When AOFAS score results are grouped as excellent, good, fair and poor; In the conservative group, 4 patients had excellent results, 2 patients had good results, 2 patients had fair results, and 4 patients had poor results. In the closed Steinman treated group, 8 patients had excellent results, 16 patients had good results, 7 patients had fair results, and 11 patients had poor results; In the group osteosynthesized with open reduction plate, 3 patients had excellent results, 3 patients had good results, 2 patients had fair results, and 4 patients had poor results. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between calcaneus fracture treatment, Steinman, plate and conservative treatments in terms of static standing and dynamic walking angle. Regardless of which treatment method was chosen, the patient's AOFAS score was excellent after the shield fractures. As a result, it makes it unnecessary to ignore the growing minimally invasive treatment of calcaneus fractures.
