Abstract (EN)
OBJEKTİVE: Diabetes is a heterogeneous group of metabolic diseases characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from dysfunction of pancreatic beta cells, insulin secretion, or any disorder in insulin activity or effect, and is characterized by impaired lipid, carbohydrate and protein metabolism. The aim of the study was to elucidate the relationship between kallistatin protein and microvascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with and without microvascular complications in the control group. MATERİAL AND METHODS: This study was conducted between August 1, 2024, and June 31, 2025, with 172 patients (86 in the patient group and 86 in the control group) followed at the Endocrinology and Internal Medicine Clinics of Trakya University. These patients were prospectively compared in terms of routine 24-hour urine proteinuria, 24-hour microalbuminuria, fundus examination, clinical neuropathy, biochemical kallistatin protein levels, age, gender, height, weight, body mass index, and diabetes duration. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: The potential relationships between age, gender, body mass index, microvascular complications, and kallistatin levels were investigated in patient and control groups. According to our findings, there was no significant correlation between kallistatin levels and the presence of microvascular complications, whether single or multiple, when compared to the control group. Furthermore, no statistically significant association was observed between kallistatin levels and gender, height, weight, age, or body mass index among the groups. CONCLUSION: No significant correlation was observed between microvascular complications and kallistatin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. .
