Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYTHE EXPERIMENTAL COMPARISON OF EFFECTS ON THEOSTEOGENESIS OF CALCIUM SULFATE?S PARTICULES AND β-TRICALCIUMPHOSPHATE/HYDROXYAPATITE?S GRANULAR IN BONE CAVITIESDt. S. Serhat ATILGANThis thesis study was carried out to investigate the effect of medical grade calciumsulfate and β-tricalcium phosphate/hydroxyapatite on new bone formation. Additionally, thisstudy compared these materials for infection, resorption, biocompatibility, immune reaction, fibrotic encapsulation, foreign body reaction, physical attachment.Forty female Wistar Albino rats of 5 months were used for this study. Anesthesia of therats provided with intramuscular Xylozin Hydrochlorid (RompunR, Bayer, Türkiye) andKetamin (KetalarR, Eczacıbaşı, Türkiye) .The right legs of the rats were shaved and cleanedwith antiseptic solution. The right femurs of the rats surgically exposed and defects wereprepared about 10 mm in bone. Forty rats included into study were divided into 2 groups.Medical grade calcium sulfate particles (SurgiPlasterR , Bio-Lok International Company) wasapplied to the rats in group I and β-tricalcium phosphate/hydroxyapatite granular(CamceramR, Cam Implants by an osteotech, Inc. Company) to those rats in group II. At thepostoperative periods of 10., 21., 30., 60. days, femurs were sacrified and investigatedhistopathologically. Mann-Whitney-U statistic test applied to the data obtained in the result ofhistopathologic survey of specimens. In conclusion, it was determined that both materials resulted in fibrous tissue andinflammation to similar response that their biocompatibilities were so good and they did notcause foreign body reaction. Osteogenesis also was observed in two groups after 21st day.The effects of calcium sulfate on bone formation were faster than β-tricalciumphosphate/hydroxyapatite. In calcium sulfate?s group, osteogenesis was not completed asmuch as β-tricalcium phosphate/hydroxyapatite?s group. No significant differences werestatistically observed between two groups.β-tricalciumKey Words: Medical grade calcium sulfate particles,phosphate/hydroxyapatite granular, ostegenesis, bone defects, experimental.
