Abstract (EN)

In this study, epistemological beliefs of the public school teachers in the city of Siirt in terms of some variables were explored. The population consists of teachers from primary, secondary, and high schools located in the city center of Siirt during the 2019-2020 school year. The sample of the study consists of 478 teachers determined by stratified sampling. The data were gathered through the scale of 'Scientific Epistemological Beliefs' adapted by Acat et al. (2010) to Turkish and its culture. The scale is a Likert type (5 points) consisting of five sub-categories and 25 items. The research analyses were run through the R program with its 4.0.3 version. The analyses of the gathered data were run through the t-test and Anova test. The research concluded that teachers' scientific epistemological beliefs are at an advanced degree (sophisticated). While reasoning among sub-categories of teachers' scientific epistemological beliefs is the highest average, the authority and righteousness sub-category is at the lowest average. There were no significant differences among the variables of gender, title, school type, and department at all the sub-categories. It is found that there are significant differences among the variables of the source of information and information variance based on the age variable; the variable of the knowledge generation process and reasoning based on the education variable; the variables of the authority and righteousness, reasoning and information variance based on professional experience variable.
