Examining the spiritual well-being status of people diagnosed with cancer

Investigation of Spiritual Well-Being of Individuals Diagnosed with Cancer In diseases such as cancer that require a long and difficult treatment process, the spiritual well-being of patients is very important for the meaning of life and the success of treatment processes. This descriptive study was conducted to examine the spiritual well-being of patients diagnosed with cancer. The sample of the study consisted of 300 cancer patients who received treatment in the medical oncology service and outpatient chemotherapy unit of Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital between February and May 2024. Introductory information form and "Spiritual Well-Being Scale" were used to collect the data. The descriptive-information form includes questions to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of individuals diagnosed with cancer and questions to examine the status of receiving spiritual support, their diagnosis and activities of daily living. The data obtained were evaluated using median, minimum and maximum values, percentages, numbers, Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test in SPSS 21 package program. In the study, the median score of the spiritual well-being scale was 33.0. It was found that there was a significant difference between the age, education level and diagnosis status of the patients and their spiritual well-being (p<0.05). As a result, it was found that the spiritual well-being of individuals diagnosed with cancer was high.
