The problem of freedom in Kant and Sartre

In the introductory section of this study, it is emphasized that the concept of "freedom" is used in many different contexts considering the conditions of the period in the context of the conditions of the period. First of all, in the ancient times, Plato and Aristotle's emphasis on freedom, the meanings of the concept of freedom were discussed. Freedom in Plato's philosophy as a person choosing his own structure; Aristotle philosophy is the power to make a choice with knowledge. Therefore, in ancient philosophy, freedom is more of a concept based on the principle of reason. When it comes to the medieval philosophy where the problem of freedom is the subject of intense debate, the changing perspective of human beings, especially with the belief in Christianity, has changed the ideas about the concept of freedom. At this point, the concept of freedom is discussed in the context of the relationship between the endless knowledge of God and the freedom of man who is accepted as a sinful being. When it comes to modern philosophy, freedom is handled in terms of the human being, in parallel with the changing understanding of the universe, as a natural being with a mechanical structure. At this point, the problem of causality and freedom is discussed through Spinoza and Hume. In the first part of the study, the place and importance of the concept of freedom in Kant's philosophy is discussed. In the second part of the study, Sartre's views on Kant's philosophy with criticism about the concept of freedom are mentioned. In the discussion and conclusion part, the answer to the question of whether Sartre is a Kantian when it comes to freedom of human beings is sought.
