Evaluation of the effect of resource structure on business success in the retail sector

A company's resource structure is directly linked to its success. What the resource structure should be depends on many factors, but the sector and business model in which the company operates is also one of the important factors that determine this. Therefore, the sector or the business model determined by the enterprise is important in analyzing the resource structure. The aim of the study is to examine the effect of the most appropriate resource structure on the financial performance of the enterprises depending on the business model and sector with Multi-Criteria Decision Making Methods. In the study, the analysis of the resource structure was carried out on the basis of financial perspective and business model criteria. In the study, the financial performances of Bim, Şok, Migros, CarrefourSa companies operating in the BIST-Retail Sector with the nace code "47.1-Retail Trade in Stores Not Dedicated to a Specific Good" and CBRT (Retail Trade) Sector Balance Sheets between 2015 and 2023 were compared. CBRT (Retail Trade) Sector Balance Sheets data were also included in the analysis to compare and control company performances. As a result, it is concluded that Bim and Şok, Migros and CarrefourSa have similar business models, the most appropriate resource structure depending on the sector and business model is that the debt obtained from commodity markets is higher than money and capital markets, autofinancing is higher than paid-in capital, and real autofinancing is higher than implied autofinancing. The financial structure of the company that is consistently the most successful in the time series has the most appropriate resource structure specified. The conclusion is supported by CRITIC weighting, TOPSIS, MOORA and Sensitivity Analysis. This study can be taken as a model resource structure for other companies.
