The urban identity of Burdur in the context of urban image

In this study, the city identity of Burdur is examined in terms of city images. The historical, cultural, natural and physical values of Burdur are examined and their importance for the city identity is emphasized. Images of city identity were classified according to the components of city image theory and these images were examined. This classification was made according to city image theory of Kevin Lynch. To classify the city images of Burdur; people who had an influence on the city identity of Burdur and had an effect on the promotion of the city identity were identified. Interviews with selected participants were made by interview method and their opinions and suggestions were taken into consideration. As a consequence, classification was made according to city image theory. Through this classification, an answer has been sought to the question "Is it possible to provide such benefits to the city's formation by the governors as determining the images that form the city identity, being recognized of them, the people and the governors' formatting the city" according to these determined images. As a result of the interviews, it was determined that the classification would be useful for the awareness of the city images and promotion of the city. Moreover, this classification would be beneficial for the public in terms of shaping the city according to these images and protecting them. Consequently, if the local authorities act according to these classified images while making city planning, making an important decision about the city, carrying out projects and activities for the city, it protects and promotes these images which are important for the identity of the city. In the present study, the city images of Burdur are examined and the advantage of classification of the images that form the city identity are emphasized to aware and protect of the identities of the cities.
