Abstract (EN)

The study aims to create a model proposal that can base the planning and design studies by evaluating the urban identity elements in line with the historical city protection criteria. The spatial development of Antakya and Gaziantep was primarily examined and then traditional tissue analysis was performed. Urban identity elements to be taken into consideration in the study areas were determined. The evaluation forms and charts were prepared. The results of the evaluation made according to the 5-Likert scale were multiplied by the weighted coefficients determined by taking the expert opinions and the weighted values were determined. In order to determine the protection index value for each value, the proportioning method was applied on the property with the highest value. In order to determine the suitability of the values, certain intervals have been determined and the tables are expressed in different colors according to these intervals. Finally, the determined values are established and interpreted with ArcGIS program. As a result, the current status of the identity elements found in the urban sites were evaluated, the zoning decisions made over time, and the destruction of the historical texture as a result of some applications were determined. It has been determined that the value of historical texture can be preserved and the additions and material changes have negative effects with the protection of traditional textures and fiction.
